SUPPORT OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE

Most people think of Linux when you say Open Source Software (Free and non-propriety); but there are many OSS programs available for Windoze machines, too, and some of them are even available on both Linux AND Windoze!  That's a big plus for people who want to give Linux a try while still using Windoze, since you can deal with the same programs between both Operating Systems.  I highly recommend using Open Source Software whenever possible. Help break the prison that Micro$oft tries to hold us in!  Among programs I regularly use are Open Office for my word processing & office application needs, Mozilla or it's upcoming replacement Firefox for web browsing, GAIM (still in development stages) for Instant Messaging that supports a wide variety of protocols, FileZilla for FTP file transfers, and Zinf as an excellent audio media player and WinAmp replacement.  Click my Linux icon to the right to be taken to a web site with LOTS of Open Source Software links.

Keep Track of Friends

A lot of people use an Instant Messaging program to keep track of friends who are online.  One of the problems we run into is that there are a wide variety of incompatible Instant Messaging programs out there; so we end up running more than one program at a time to keep track of everyone.  Well, we've come across two really neat Instant Messaging programs that pretty much do it all, including AIM/AOL, ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo!.  They are Pidgin (Which is also available for Linux - Formerly called GAIM) and Trillian.  As an added plus, they also support IRC, for those of you who like to lurk in chat rooms from time to time.  Give them a try and you may find yourself getting rid of all of those other programs that are taking up space on your hard drive and eating up your memory.....

openSUSE Linux      LINUX

Tired of Micro$oft's prices?  Tired of every Micro$soft program being "bloatware" that takes up hundreds of megabytes of space on your hard drive, not to mention requiring faster processors and more memory?  Tired of Windoze crashing or freezing every time you turn around, not to mention those infamous "Blue Screens Of Death" (Fatal Error in DLL, VXD, etc., etc.)?  Just tired of it ALL.....?  Then break yourself free and give Linux a try!  After trying Corel, Caldera and Mandrake, I've been using openSUSE for quite a few years, presently Version 11.1, and highly recommend it.
